Another characteristic of bitterness is that it can make a person disagreeable.
The word disagreeable describes someone who is unpleasant, uncooperative, and difficult to be around. This is the person who constantly criticizes others, complains frequently, and seems to rain on everyone’s parade.
When bitterness takes root in the heart, it eventually begins to show in our attitudes, words, and relationships. The anger, resentment, and hostility we carry within us become visible to those around us. What started as unresolved pain can gradually shape our entire personality.
There may be a storm raging on the inside, but God is able to bring peace to the troubled heart.
If you are struggling with bitterness, invite the Holy Spirit to minister to you. Allow God to heal the wounds beneath the surface and restore the joy and gentleness that bitterness has stolen. When Christ becomes Lord over our pain, He can transform a hardened heart into one marked by peace, forgiveness, and love.
