The book of Psalm states that it is God who gives us justice, especially when we have been treated unfairly. God does not want us holding offenses even when have been wronged. Naturally we want to lash out and remain offended. We may even want to retaliate in a physical way. However, getting back at people not only makes us look bad, it can land us in jail.
Remaining offended is a root cause for many sicknesses and disease. Whenever we are angry and upset, our bodies react by producing chemicals that makes our hearts race, stress levels increase, and a host of other reactions we hardly notice. We even lose precious sleep that effects our bodies negatively. Our bodies cannot restore, heal and repair if we are tossing and turning throughout the night.
Spiritually, holding on to unforgiveness blocks our blessings. God cannot forgive us if we don't forgive others (Matthew 6:14-15). It does not mean that you excuse what they did or act like it never happened. It simply means that you hold no resentment toward the person and are able to move forward with your life. You don't bring up the offense to the person over and over again. You let it go.
So what should you do when an offense occurs? Talk things over with the offender. Tell them why you are offended. If they ask for your forgiveness great, if they don't than still let it go. You have done your part. Remember, God is the one who gives justice.
