Not Every Delay is God's Timing

Today, I want to write about delay.

In Christian circles, whenever the subject of delay is mentioned, it is often followed by Scriptures encouraging us to wait, remain patient, and trust God’s timing. Those messages are valuable, but I do not believe that every delay should automatically be labeled “God’s timing.”

Some delays are created by our own passivity.

God leads, prompts, provides wisdom, and opens doors. However, progress can be delayed when we are unprepared, unwilling, fearful, or hesitant to act.

Sometimes we are waiting for God to move when He has already given us direction. The opportunity may be present. The instruction may be clear. The next step may already be within our reach. Yet fear, indecision, comfort, or resistance can keep us standing still.

We may continue praying for confirmation when the real issue is that we are afraid to obey. We may call it waiting on God when, in reality, God may be waiting for us to use the wisdom, ability, and opportunity He has already provided.

This does not mean we should act impulsively or move without prayer. There is wisdom in preparation, discernment, and patience. However, there is also a time when continued hesitation becomes disobedience.

We must be honest enough to examine our own role in the delay instead of placing every period of inactivity entirely on God.

Ask yourself: Has God truly told me to wait, or am I delaying because I am afraid of what the next step will require?

God may be willing to move, but we must also be willing to move with Him.
