God's Concept of Time

"But do not forget this one thing, dear friends:  With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day..."
2 Peter 3:8

Time is a construct that drives Western society. From the moment we wake up in the morning until the time we fall asleep at night, we are on some type of schedule. We have time slots already occupied with appointments, meetings, and phone calls. No wonder time seem to “fly”.

According to Business Insider (2014), America operates on a linear concept of time driven by our profit oriented society. You have heard the infamous saying, “time is money”. This is said so often because in Western society, time is viewed as a scarcity. There seems to never be enough of it in one day.

Though I am harping on “time”, time is something that we must acknowledge. Our mind needs time to function. We have to know what time to wake, sleep, and be at work. We must know how much time it takes to drive from point A to point B. We must know how much time it will take to complete a project before its deadline.

However, God is not bound by the natural laws of time. He operates in the realm of Eternity, and can give a person 10 years of progress in 10 minutes. There have been times where I have completed on a project that will usually take a week in just a couple of hours. It is not because I am so competent, but that the Lord will give me ideas, thoughts, and instructions that will further the process along.

So let us be cognizant that the Lord operates outside of our schedules and our natural view of time.
