No one can make you happy but you

Gerd Altmann
Happy:  delighted, pleased, or glad, as over a particular thing, characterized by or indicative of pleasure, contentment, or joy

More often than not we equate happiness with something that is external, instead of it coming from within.  We feel that we will be happy once we have found that right person, landed that dream job, or move into that extravagant home in that brand new subdivision.  We are always looking externally for people or things to make us happy.  How about looking upward toward God, and allowing Him to feel us with inward joy that goes beyond just attaining mere happiness.

The emotion of happiness is depended upon external situations such as people or things.  However, joy comes from within because it is something that only God can give.  A person can be joyful whether they have met the right person or not, whether we have the dream job or work at McDonald’s.   This is because joy is infused with expectation.  Joy trusts in God, because it knows that God can turn things around in an instance.  Joy confidently expects God to make the crooked places straight.  “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Jeremiah 29:11.  Joy knows that God has more than what we are experiencing at the moment.  So the Joy of the Lord is our strength.

How do you attain the joy of the Lord?  You attain the joy of the Lord by trusting in God.  You trust that He has a plan for your life and You seek Him for that Plan.  You attend a church where you are fed the Word of God and attach yourself to Godly people who can assist in guiding you through life.  Do good deeds for others and assist them as you grow and develop in God.  Delve into God’s Word.  Allow God to show you who you are through His Word.

Set aside time for yourself when you are doing nothing but medicating on your destiny in God and who you are in God.  Accept the creation God made within you and remember “I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful,    I know that full well”.  Psalms 139:14.
